Today, on Earth Day—a day meant to honor and protect our planet—an unexpected and disheartening event took place. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) held an auction to sell off a portion of old-growth forest west of Yoncalla, in the Umpqua River Watershed.
We made it loud and clear that this decision does not align with the values of the people. Together with Cascadia Wildlands and Umpqua Watersheds, we rallied, marched, shouted, and chanted to show our objection to this sale.
Dylan, our dedicated and fearless point person, stood at the forefront. At one point, he was even threatened with detainment for leading our peaceful protest outside the BLM office—a threat that was quickly rescinded. He remained steadfast, buying us valuable time to voice our concerns in front of the offices.
Eventually, we took our protest to the streets of Roseburg, spreading our message and showing local residents that we are here to fight for the trees, the climate, and the integrity of our shared environment.
Around 40 passionate individuals showed up to support this critical cause, and the fight doesn’t end here. We will continue to advocate for our forests, our climate, and the future of our planet.
